Please forgive me. Our house has been under the weather. Monday Dane and I went on a date to a Jazz Game with some friends. Our kids were happily babysat by their Grandparents and enjoyed it!Well when we got home that night, both kids, were up all night long!! It was a mess. I was mostly worried about Symi because we've been watching her ears for about 3 1/2 weeks now. Hoping that her congestion will go away and not develop into infections. So I scheduled an appointment for Symi and Ben. Thinking that maybe he was getting what she already had.
We got to the Dr's office and were shuffled back to a room right away. Both kids were bawling and pulling on each other trying to be on my lap alone. The Dr came in and they started to play and act normal. (Why do they always do that?) He first checked Symi. She had a slight fever, congestion up high in her chest, clear ears, red swollen and sore throat with developing sores on the back. Strep. Antibiotics, rest, and Tylenol.
Next it was Ben's turn ears and throat very clear! But why was he coughing so hard? The Dr decided to just listen to his chest to make sure everything was ok. He listened once quietly and focused. Then he asked to listen again, but that everyone please be quiet. He turned to me and said,"He sounds awful!! But I don't think it's "bad" yet. If you had waited a day or 2 he would have been really bad! He has pneumonia." WHAT?!!?
So I asked the Dr how this could have happened? He said,"Ben's immune system has been down for over a month. First with the horrible virus. Then the oral surgery. That his poor body just couldn't keep up." He also thinks he was refluxing with GERD and got some in his lungs. Thus causing him to have pneumonia. He's on antibiotics and Tylenol. Poor kid on day 2 sounded horrible!
I asked how Symi got Strep. The Dr said," Symi had really bad congestion right before Thanksgiving." The Dr doesn't like to put her on antibiotics because her body creates an immunity to the antibiotic and gets really sick. Her body fights it like her allergies. So we were waiting to see if she could fight this on her own first. Well so far she has. I think a few days prior that it started to drain. Right down her throat. Her ears were probably infected slightly, but as it drained it caused her throat to become infected with Strep. Thus where we are now.
So far we are home. No one is in the hospital and we are all trying to recuperate. Again. We've spent a few days watching movies, reading books, napping, eating warm soups, cuddling, snuggling, and don't forget the tears too. Despite them being so sick, they have been troopers.
Antibiotics are almost done and then we will no longer be contagious. We are looking forward to a happy, healthy, and fun Christmas day together!!
